Imran bin Husayn reported,

We were on a journey with the Prophet ﷺ, and we traveled through the night. When we reached the last part of the night, we fell into a sleep, and there is no sleep sweeter to a traveler than that. Nothing woke us except the heat of the sun. The first to wake was so-and-so, then so-and-so, then so-and-so. Abu Raja used to name them, but Awf forgot. Then Umar bin Khattab was the fourth. When the Prophet ﷺ slept, he was not to be awakened until he woke on his own, because we did not know what might come to him in his sleep. When Umar woke and saw what had befallen the people, being a strong, resolute man, he proclaimed the takbir and raised his voice with it. He kept calling out the takbir and raising his voice until the Prophet ﷺ woke at the sound of his voice. When the Prophet ﷺ woke, they complained to him about what had happened. He said, "There is no harm. Move on."So he moved on, and after traveling a short distance he stopped and called for water for ablution. He performed the ablution, the call to prayer was given, and he led the people in prayer. When he finished his prayer, he noticed a man standing apart who had not prayed with the others. He asked, "What kept you, so-and-so, from praying with the people?"The man replied, "I am in a state of major impurity and there is no water."He said, "You should use clean earth, for that will suffice you."Then the Prophet ﷺ continued on, and the people complained to him of thirst. He stopped and called so-and-so, whom Abu Raja used to name but Awf forgot, and he also called Ali.He said to them, "Go and search for water."So they set out and came upon a woman with two waterskins, or two large leather containers of water, on her camel. They asked her, "Where is the water?"She replied, "I was at the water yesterday at this same hour, and our menfolk are away."They said to her, "Then come along."She asked, "Where to?"They said, "To the Messenger of Allah."She said, "The one they call the Sabian?"They said, "That is the one you mean. Now come."They brought her to the Prophet ﷺ and told him the story. They had her dismount from her camel, and the Prophet ﷺ called for a vessel. He poured water into it from the openings of the two waterskins, then tied their openings shut and opened the lower spouts. It was announced among the people, "Drink and draw water." So whoever wished drank, and whoever wished drew water. The last of it was that he gave the man who had been in a state of impurity a vessel of water and said, "Go and pour it over yourself."
