I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Throw dust in the faces of those who shower others with praise."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: احثوا في أفواه المداحين التراب.

Reported by Ibn Hibban (5769), Bazzar (5413-5414), and Tabarani in Musnad Shamiyin (275), all of them through routes from Zayd bin Aslam, who said, "I heard Ibn Umar," and then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.As for what was reported by Ahmad (5684), Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (340), and Ibn Hibban (5770), all of them through the route of Hammad bin Salama, who said, "Ali bin Hakam informed us, from Ata bin Abu Rabah, from Ibn Umar," in similar fashion, it contains a break in the chain. Most scholars, including Ahmad, Ibn Main, and Ali bin Madini, held the view that Ata bin Abu Rabah never heard directly from Ibn Umar.
