The Prophet ﷺ heard a man praising another and going to excess in his praise, so he said, "You have destroyed," or, "broken the man's back."
سمع النبي ﷺ رجلا يثني على رجل ويطريه في المدحة فقال: أهلكتم- أو- قطعتم ظهر الرجل.
Bukhari narrated it in Adab (6060), and Muslim in Zuhd (3001), both from Muhammad bin Sabbah, who said, Ismail bin Zakariya narrated to us, Burayd bin Abdullah bin Abu Burda narrated to us, from Abu Burda bin Abu Musa, from Abu Musa, and he related it.
