The Prophet ﷺ said, "The truest word ever spoken by a poet is the word of Labid, 'Indeed, everything other than Allah is vain.' And Umaya bin Abu Salt nearly became a Muslim."
قال النبي ﷺ: أصدق كلمة قالها الشاعر كلمة لبيد: ألا كل شيء ما خلا الله باطل، وكاد أمية بن أبي الصلت أن يسلم.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Manners (6147), and Muslim in the Book of Poetry (2256), both through various routes from Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, who related it. Muslim gave more attention to citing its various routes and wordings.Labid, that is Ibn Rabia Amiri, was a companion, and one of the poets of the Muallaqat. He died in Kufa in the year 41 AH.
