I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Indeed, some eloquence is like magic. The worst of people are those whom the Hour overtakes while they are still alive, and those who take the graves of their dead as places of worship."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: إن من البيان سحرا، وشرار الناس الذين تدركهم الساعة أحياء، والذين يتخذون قبورهم مساجد.
Ahmad (4342) narrated it from Affan, who said, "Qays told us, Amash informed us, from Ibrahim, from Ubayda Salmani, from Abdullah bin Masud," and he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Qays bin Rabi, for he was truthful in himself, but when he grew old his son introduced into his narrations things that were not from his own hadith, and he then reported them. Affan bin Muslim was among the closest students of Qays bin Rabi, and he used to affirm him as reliable, saying, "Thawri and Shuba affirmed him as reliable." Perhaps this hadith is not among what his son introduced into his narrations.
