The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never had bread and meat brought together for his lunch or his dinner except when there were many people sharing the meal with him.
أن رسول الله ﷺ لم يجمع له غداء ولا عشاء من خبز ولحم إلا على ضفف.
Ahmad (13859), Tirmidhi in Shamail (138), Abu Yaala (3108), and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih (6359) all reported it through the route of Affan bin Muslim, who said, Abu Aban bin Yazid narrated to us, who said, Qatada narrated to us, from Anas, and he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih.Haythami said in Majma al-Zawaid (5/20), "Ahmad and Abu Yaala reported it, and their men are the men of the Sahih."As for his saying, "dafaf," it is said that among its meanings is the gathering of people, meaning he did not eat bread and meat alone, but rather ate together with people.
