The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should eat with his left hand or drink with it, for Satan eats with his left hand and drinks with it."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: لا يأكلن أحد منكم بشماله، ولا يشربن بها، فإن الشيطان يأكل بشماله، ويشرب بها.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Drinks (2020: 106) from Abu Tahir and Harmala, Abu Tahir said, "He informed us," while Harmala said, "He related to us," that Abdullah bin Wahb said, Umar bin Muhammad related to me, Qasim bin Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Umar related to him, from him from Salim, from his father, and he mentioned the hadith. Then he added afterward, saying, "Nafi used to add to it, 'One should not take with it, nor give with it,'" and in the version of Abu Tahir, "None of you should eat."Abu Awana clarified in his Sahih (8178) that the speaker was Umar bin Muhammad. He is Umar bin Muhammad bin Zayd bin Abdullah bin Umar bin Khattab Qurashi, who narrated from Nafi and others. Accordingly, the addition is connected through the same chain mentioned above and is sahih, though I have not yet come across this narration from Nafi, so it should be examined further. This hadith recommends avoiding actions that resemble the actions of devils.
