Tabarani reported it in Mujam al-Awsat (7983) from Musa bin Harun, who said, Sahl bin Salih Antaki narrated to us, saying, "I saw Yazid bin Abu Mansur, and he said, Anas bin Malik narrated to us," then he related it. He said, "This hadith is not narrated from Anas except by this chain."I say, this is a hasan chain because of Yazid bin Abu Mansur and Sahl bin Salih Antaki, for both of them are hasan al-hadith. Ibn Hajar graded it hasan in Talkhis (4/64), as did Haythami in Majma (8/34).It has also been narrated from Anas through other channels, but without mention of the Prophet's companionship on the journey. Ibn Sunni reported it in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (246) from Abu Qasim bin Mani, who said, Abdul-Ala bin Hammad Narsi narrated to us, who said, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, who said, Thabit and Humayd narrated to us, from Anas, who said, "The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to walk together, and when a tree or a hillock came before them, they would separate, some to the right and some to the left, then meet again on the other side of it, and greet one another with salaam."Its chain is hasan because of Abdul-Ala bin Hammad Narsi, for he is hasan al-hadith. Bukhari reported it in Adab al-Mufrad (1011) through the route of Dahhak bin Nibras, from Thabit Bunani, from Anas, that the companions of the Prophet ﷺ would be walking, and when a tree came before them, a group of them would go to its right and a group to its left, and when they met again, they would greet one another with salaam.Dahhak bin Nibras has some weakness, but there is no harm in citing him as a supporting witness.A note, in the first chain, in Mujam al-Awsat, the name appears as "Suhayl bin Salih," but the correct form is "Sahl," without the diminutive form, as given in Majma Bahrain (3028).
