Abu Naeem narrated it in Hilyat Awliya (9/25), from Habib bin Hasan, who said, Yusuf Qadi narrated to us, who said, Ibn Abu Bakr narrated to us, who said, Ibn Mahdi narrated to us, who said, Sufyan (that is, Thawri) narrated to us, from Abu Qays (the freed slave of Amr bin As, whose name was Abdul-Rahman bin Thabit), from Amr bin Maymun, from Abdullah bin Masud, and he mentioned it.Its isnad is hasan because of Habib bin Hasan, who is Ibn Dawud, Abu Qasim Qazzaz, for his hadith is hasan. The rest of its narrators are trustworthy. Yusuf Qadi is Yusuf bin Yaqub bin Ismail bin Hammad bin Zayd Basri, whom Khatib graded trustworthy in his Tarikh. Ibn Abu Bakr is Muhammad bin Abu Bakr bin Ali Muqaddami, whom Abu Zura and others graded trustworthy.Abu Naeem also narrated it in Hilyah (7/134 and 9/25), and Bayhaqi narrated it in Shuab (8407), both through chains from Abdul-Rahman bin Rustah, who said, Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan Thawri, from Abu Ishaq Sabi, from Abu Ahwas (that is, Awf bin Malik Jushami), from Abdullah, and he mentioned it. In Bayhaqi's version it reads, "free from pride."Abu Naeem said after it, "This is a rare narration from the hadith of Thawri, from Abu Ishaq, as if it is not well preserved. What is well known is what Habib bin Hasan narrated to us, who said, Yusuf Qadi narrated to us..." meaning the first isnad.His word "sarm" means cutting off and estrangement.
