Bukhari narrated it in Adab al-Mufrad (811), and Ibn Hibban (504) - and this is his wording - both from Yazid bin Miqdam bin Shurayh bin Hani, from his father Miqdam, from Shurayh bin Hani, who said, "Hani bin Yazid narrated to me," and he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Yazid bin Miqdam, for he is hasan al-hadith.Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir (22/180) through the route of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, who said, "Ibn Ashjai gave me some books from his father," and among them was, from Sufyan, from Miqdam bin Shurayh, from his father, from his grandfather, mentioning the hadith with the wording, "Among the things that necessitate forgiveness are extending greetings and speaking well."Ibn Ashjai is Abu Ubayda bin Ubaydullah bin Abdul-Rahman. A group of trustworthy narrators transmitted from him, among them Imam Ahmad, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators.
