He stood at the door of the Prophet ﷺ seeking permission to enter, and he stood right at the doorway. Uthman said, "Facing the door directly."The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Move aside like this, or like this, for permission to enter is required because of the gaze."
أنه وقف على باب النبي ﷺ يستأذن، فقام على الباب- قال عثمان: مستقبل الباب- فقال له النبي ﷺ: هكذا عنك- أو هكذا، فإنما الاستئذان من النظر.
Abu Dawud (5174) narrated it from Uthman bin Abu Shayba, who said, Jareer narrated to us. Another chain, Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba narrated to us, Hafs narrated to us from Amash, from Talha, from Hazeel, who said, a man came, Uthman said, Saad said, then he related the hadith.Hazeel, with the diminutive form, is the son of Shurahbil Awdi Kufi, a mukhadram who narrated from Saad bin Ubada. Saad here is mentioned without further specification, and it appears that he is Saad bin Abu Waqqas. For this reason, Mizzi placed it in Tuhfat Ashraf (3/322) under the musnad of Saad bin Abu Waqqas.Abu Hatim, in al-Ilal (2219), concluded that he is Saad bin Ubada, and this is likewise the case with Tabarani in Mujam al-Kabir (22/6), by way of a narration from Talha bin Musarrif that he is Saad bin Ubada. This is closer to being correct. It has also been said that he is Saad bin Muaz, and it has been said that he is Qays bin Saad. Allah, the Most High, knows best what is correct.
