The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe, and the believer is the one whom people trust with their lives and their wealth."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: المسلم من سلم المسلمون من لسانه ويده، والمؤمن من أمنه الناس على دمائهم وأموالهم.
Tirmidhi (2627), Nasai (4995), Ibn Hibban (180), and Hakim (1/10) all narrated it through the hadith of Ibn Ajlan, from Qaqa bin Hakeem, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah who said, then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Ibn Ajlan, for he is hasan al-hadith.Ahmad (8931) narrated it through this same route, but in it he said, "the Muslim is the one from whom people are safe" instead of "Muslims are safe," and this is a narration by meaning. The correct and widely transmitted version is "Muslims are safe," because it has come in some narrations that a man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Which of the Muslims is best?" and he said, "The one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe."
