The Prophet ﷺ took Hasan, kissed him, then turned to those present and said, "Children make one stingy, ignorant, and cowardly."
عن النبي ﷺ أنه أخذ حسنا فقبله، ثم أقبل عليهم فقال: إن الولد مبخلة مجهلة مجبنة.

Bazzar narrated it in Kashf Astar (1891), and Hakim (3/297), both through chains from Abdul-Razzaq, who said, Maamar narrated to us, from Ibn Khuthaym, from Muhammad bin Aswad bin Khalaf, from his father, who said, then he mentioned it. The wording given is Bazzar's, and Hakim added at the end, "distressing."Its isnad is hasan because of Muhammad bin Aswad bin Khalaf al-Qurashi. More than one person narrated from him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy of the Tabiin, so someone like him has his hadith judged hasan when there is no nakarah in it, and this is such a case.Ibn Khuthaym is Abdullah bin Uthman bin Khuthaym, whose hadith is hasan. Haythami said in al-Majma (1558), "Bazzar narrated it and its men are trustworthy."Aswad bin Khalaf is the son of Abd Yaghouth al-Qurashi, one of those who accepted Islam at the Conquest. He saw the Prophet ﷺ on the day of the conquest of Makkah taking the people's pledge of allegiance, and he is mentioned in the account of the conquest of Makkah in the book of Maghazi.
