I was the first to hear the Prophet ﷺ say, "None of you should urinate while facing the qiblah." And I was the first to relate this to people.
أنا أول بن من سمع النبي ﷺ يقول: لا يبولن أحدكم مستقبل القبلة. وأنا أول من حدث الناس بذلك.
Ibn Majah narrated it (317), saying, Muhammad bin Rumh Misri told us, Layth bin Saad informed us, from Yazid bin Abu Habib, that he heard Abdullah bin Harith bin Juz saying, then he mentioned the hadith. Busiri said in Zawaid, its isnad is sahih, and Ibn Hibban, Hakim, Abu Dharr Harawi and others ruled it sahih, and I do not know of any defect in it. End of quote.I say, it is as he said. Imam Ahmad narrated it (17700) and others through routes from Layth bin Saad in this manner. Then he narrated it through another route (17708) from Ibn Lahia, from Ubaydullah bin Mughira, who said, Abdullah bin Harith bin Juz Zubaydi told me, saying, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ urinate facing the qibla, and I am the first to inform people of that."This is one of the things in which Ibn Lahia erred, for Abdullah bin Harith narrates the prohibition against facing the qibla, not the opposite, namely an act of the Prophet ﷺ that he used to urinate while facing the qibla.
