The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul while he was sitting in the shade of a thicket. Abdullah bin Ubayy said, "Ibn Abu Kabsha has covered us with dust."His son Abdullah bin Abdullah said, "By the One who has honored you and revealed the Book to you, if you wish, I will bring you his head."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "No. Rather, treat your father kindly and keep good company with him."
مر رسول الله ﷺ على عبد الله بن أبي ابن سلول، وهو في ظل أجمة، فقال: قد غبر علينا ابن أبي كبشة، فقال ابنه عبد الله بن عبد الله: والذي أكرمك، والذي أنزل عليك الكتاب، لئن شئت لاتينك برأسه، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: لا، ولكن بر أباك، وأحسن صحبته.
Ibn Hibban narrated it in his Sahih (428) from Umar bin Muhammad Hamdani, who said, Ahmad bin Saeed Hamdani narrated to us, who said, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, who said, Shabib bin Saeed informed me, from Muhammad bin Amr, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, who said, and then he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Shabib bin Saeed, for he is hasan al-hadith, except that the leading scholars criticized Ibn Wahb's narration from him. However, it has a corroborating narration. Amr bin Khalifa Abu Uthman corroborated him, narrating from Muhammad bin Amr, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, with the same wording.Bazzar narrated it, in Kashf Astar (2708), from Muhammad bin Bashshar and Abu Musa Muhammad bin Muthanna, who both said, Amr bin Khalifa narrated to us with the same wording.Haythami said in Majmaa (9/318), Bazzar narrated it, and its men are reliable narrators.I say, with the two chains together, the hadith rises to the level of hasan.As for his statement, "It covered us with dust," it means it struck us with dust and soil.
