A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked, "Messenger of Allah, who among people is most deserving of my good companionship?"He replied, "Your mother."The man asked, "Then who?"He said, "Then your mother."The man asked, "Then who?"He said, "Then your mother."The man asked, "Then who?"He said, "Then your father."In another narration, "Then those nearest to you, then those nearest."
جاء رجل إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال: يا رسول الله، من أحق الناس بحسن صحابتي؟ قال: أمك قال: ثم من؟ قال: ثم أمك قال: ثم من؟ قال: ثم أمك قال: ثم من؟ قال: ثم أبوك. وفي رواية: ثم أدناك أدناك.
Bukhari narrated it in al-Adab (5971), and Muslim in al-Birr wal-Silah (2548:1), both through routes from Jareer, from Umara bin Qaqa, from Abu Zura, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it.As for the second narration, Muslim narrated it (2548:2) through the route of Ibn Fudayl, from his father, from Umara bin Qaqa, with the same wording.
