Abu Dharr asked, "Messenger of Allah, what about a man who loves a people but is unable to act as they do?"He replied, "Abu Dharr, you will be with those whom you love."Abu Dharr said, "I love Allah and His Messenger."He said, "You will be with those whom you love."Abu Dharr repeated his words, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ repeated his answer.
أنه قال يا رسول الله: الرجل يحب القوم، ولا يستطيع أن يعمل كعملهم، قال: أنت يا أبا ذر مع من أحببت، قال: فإني أحب الله، ورسوله، قال: فإنك مع من أحببت قال: فأعادها أبو ذر فأعادها رسول الله ﷺ.
Abu Dawud (5126), Ahmad (21379, 21463), and Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (351) all narrated it through the route of Sulayman bin Mughira, from Humayd bin Hilal, from Abdullah bin Samit, from Abu Dharr, who mentioned it. Ibn Hibban (556) graded it sahih.
