The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When Allah loves a servant, He calls Jibreel and says, 'I love so-and-so, so love him.' Jibreel then loves him. Jibreel then calls out to the inhabitants of the heavens, 'Allah loves so-and-so, so love him,' and the inhabitants of the heavens love him. Then acceptance is placed for him on earth. And when He despises a servant, He calls Jibreel and says, 'I despise so-and-so, so despise him.' Jibreel then despises him. Jibreel then calls out to the inhabitants of the heavens, 'Allah despises so-and-so, so despise him,' and they despise him. Then hatred for him is placed on earth."
Muslim narrated it in "Righteousness and Kinship Ties" (1637) through several routes from Suhayl bin Abu Salih, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, who related it.Bukhari narrated it in "Monotheism" (7485) through the route of Abdullah bin Dinar, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, who related it, restricting it to only the part about acceptance.
