I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the truthful and trusted one, Abu Qasim, the occupant of the chamber, say, "Mercy is not stripped away from anyone except a wretched person."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ الصادق و المصدوق أبا القاسم صاحب الحجرة يقول: لا تنزع الرحمة إلا من شقي.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4942), Tirmidhi (1923), Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (374), and Ahmad (8001), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (462). All of them narrate it from the hadith of Shuba, from Mansur bin Mutamir, from Abu Uthman, from Abu Hurairah, who related it.Its chain is hasan because of Abu Uthman, who is the straw-seller, the freed slave of Mughira bin Shuba. It is said his name was Saad, and it is also said it was Imran. A group of narrators reported from him, and no criticism is found against him, and the hadith has sound foundations.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan hadith. Abu Uthman, who narrated from Abu Hurairah, his name is not known, and it is said that he is the father of Musa bin Abu Uthman, from whom Abu Zinad narrated. Abu Zinad narrated from Musa bin Abu Uthman, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, more than one hadith."
