Imam Ahmad (248), Muhammad bin Nasr Marwazi in Taazim Qadr Salah (826), and Bayhaqi in Shuab (7343) all narrated it through Layth bin Saad, from Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Abu Khayr Marthad bin Abdullah Yazani, from Saeed bin Yazid, who related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.Saeed bin Yazid Azdi's companionship with the Prophet is disputed. Ibn Abdul-Barr mentioned him among the companions and said, "Abu Khayr Yazani narrated from him, and claimed that he had companionship." Ibn Hajar relied on this and mentioned him in the first section of Isabah (3309).Daraqutni was asked about this hadith and said, "Yazid bin Abu Habib narrated it, and there is disagreement about it. Layth bin Saad narrated it from Yazid, from Abu Khayr, from Saeed bin Zayd or Saad bin Zayd, from the Prophet ﷺ. Abdul-Hameed bin Jafar contradicted him, narrating it from Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Abu Khayr, from Saeed bin Zayd, from a paternal cousin of his, who said, 'I said, "O Messenger of Allah, advise me..."' the hadith. The statement of Abdul-Hameed bin Jafar is more likely correct." Ilal Daraqutni (669).Diya al-Din Maqdisi commented on this, saying, "This is a narration of a companion from a companion, and it is sahih, so that does not affect it. Allah knows best." This shows that the unnamed questioner in Layth bin Saad's narration is the paternal cousin of Saeed bin Zayd, and both of them are companions.
