He heard Abu Bakr say, when the Prophet ﷺ had passed away, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood in this very place last year." Then Abu Bakr wept and said, "Hold fast to truthfulness, for it goes together with righteousness, and both are in Paradise. Beware of lying, for it goes together with wickedness, and both are in the Fire. Ask Allah for well-being, for after certainty no one has been granted anything better than well-being. Do not envy one another, do not hate one another, do not cut ties with one another, and do not turn your backs on one another. Be servants of Allah as brothers."
أنه سمع أبا بكر حين قبض النبي ﷺ يقول: قام رسول الله ﷺ في مقامي هذا عام الأول، ثم بكى أبو بكر، ثم قال: عليكم بالصدق، فإنه مع البر، وهما في الجنة، وإياكم والكذب، فإنه مع الفجور، وهما في النار، وسلوا الله المعافاة، فإنه لم يؤت أحد بعد اليقين خيرا من المعافاة، ولا تحاسدوا، ولا تباغضوا ولا تقاطعوا، ولا تدابروا، وكونوا عباد الله إخوانا.
Ibn Majah (3849), Ahmad (5, 17), Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (724), and Nasai in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (879-883) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (952) and Hakim (1/529) graded it sahih, all of them through routes from Awsat Bajali, who related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih, and Ibn Hibban and Hakim have graded it sahih.The hadith has other routes as well, among them what Tirmidhi (3558) and Ahmad (6) narrated, both through the route of Zuhayr bin Muhammad, from Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel, that Muaz bin Rifa informed him, from his father, who said, Abu Bakr Siddiq stood on the pulpit and mentioned part of it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Muhammad bin Aqeel, for his hadith is hasan when he does not contradict others and does not bring anything that would be rejected of him, and Muaz bin Rifa is also truthful.Tirmidhi said, "This is a gharib hadith from this route, from Abu Bakr."
