Abu Hurairah said, I was walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he heard a man reciting "Say, He is Allah, the One" [Ikhlas 112:1].The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It has become obligatory."I asked, "What has, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "Paradise."Abu Hurairah said, I wanted to go to the man and give him the good news, but I feared missing the morning meal with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I chose to stay for the meal with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When I afterwards went looking for the man, I found that he had already left.
Malik narrated it in the Book of the Quran (18), from Ubaydullah bin Abdul-Rahman, from Ubayd bin Hunayn, freedman of the family of Zayd bin Khattab, who said, I heard Abu Hurairah say, and he mentioned it.Tirmidhi (2897), Nasai (994), and Ahmad (8011) narrated it through this same route, and Hakim graded it sahih (1/566). Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih gharib hadith, we do not know it except through the hadith of Malik."
