Asma bint Abu Bakr reported,

When the verse "Perish the two hands of Abu Lahab" [Masad 111:1] was revealed, the one-eyed Umm Jamil bint Harb came along wailing, with a stone in her hand, chanting, "The reviled one we have rejected, his religion we have despised, his command we have disobeyed."The Prophet ﷺ was sitting in the masjid, and he then recited some Quran, with Abu Bakr beside him. When Abu Bakr saw her he said, "Messenger of Allah, she is coming, and I fear she will see you."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "She will not see me." Then he recited Quran and shielded himself with it, as he had said he would, reciting, "And when you recite the Quran, We place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a concealed barrier" [Isra 17:45].She came on until she stood right over Abu Bakr, and she did not see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at all. She said, "Abu Bakr, I have been told that your companion has lampooned me."Abu Bakr answered, "No, by the Lord of this House, he has not lampooned you."So she turned away, saying, "Quraysh knows that I am the daughter of their chief."Walid said in his account, or perhaps someone else said it, that Umm Jamil tripped over her cloak while she was making tawaf around the House, and she cried out, "May the reviled one perish."At that Umm Hakim bint Abdul-Muttalib said, "I am a chaste woman, so I am not slandered, and I am firm, so I bear no blemish. Both of us are daughters of the same uncle, and Quraysh knows best in the end."
