When the verse "When the help of Allah and the conquest comes" [Nasr 110:1] was revealed, along with the rest of the surah, he said, "The Messenger of Allah's ﷺ own death was announced to him when it was revealed." So he devoted himself with the utmost effort to the matters of the Hereafter. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said afterward, "The conquest has come, the help of Allah has come, and the people of Yemen have come."A man asked, "Messenger of Allah, who are the people of Yemen?"He replied, "A people with tender hearts and gentle hearts. Faith is Yemeni, wisdom is Yemeni, and understanding of religion is Yemeni."
Narrated by Nasai in Kubra (11648) and Tabarani in Kabir (11/328), both by way of Abu Awana, from Hilal bin Khabab, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, who said, then he related it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Hilal bin Khabab, for his hadith is hasan.Darimi (80) narrated it by way of Abbad bin Awwam, from Hilal bin Khabab with the same chain, and in it, the Prophet ﷺ said, "My death has been announced to me," related in this way as a raised report. Abbad bin Awwam, though reliable, contradicted someone more reliable than him, namely Abu Awana Waddah bin Abdullah Yashkuri, who was reliable and precise, and he related it as a stopped report as in the first chain of transmission, and that is the correct version. As for what Imam Ahmad narrated (1873) from Muhammad bin Fudayl, who said, Ataa narrated to us, from Saeed bin Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "My death has been announced to me," its chain of transmission is daif. It contains Ataa, who is Ibn Saaib, whose memory became confused, and this is among what he related after his memory became confused, and Muhammad bin Fudayl heard from him after that confusion set in.So the sound conclusion is that it has not been established from the Prophet ﷺ that he announced his own death after the revelation of Surah Nasr. What has been established is only that this was reported as a stopped report from the companions.
