The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The earth will throw up the pieces of its liver like pillars of gold and silver. The murderer will come and say, 'For this I killed.' The one who severed family ties will come and say, 'For this I cut off my relatives.' The thief will come and say, 'For this my hand was cut off.' Then they will leave it behind and take nothing from it."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Zakat (1013) through several routes from Muhammad bin Fudayl, from his father, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurairah, as mentioned.Regarding His saying, "On that Day it will report its news" [Zalzalah 99:4], this means it will report what those who worked upon its surface did. It is also reported concerning this from Abu Hurairah that he said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited this verse, "On that Day it will report its news", then he said, "Do you know what its news is?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "Its news is that it will testify against every male and female servant regarding what they did upon its surface, that it will say, 'He did such and such on such and such a day.' That," he said, "is its news."This was narrated by Tirmidhi (2429) and Ahmad (8867), and Ibn Hibban (7360), Hakim (2/532), and Bayhaqi in Shuab al-Iman (6915) all graded it sahih, all of them from the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Ayub, who said, Yahya bin Abu Salim narrated to me, from Saeed Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, as mentioned. Tirmidhi said, "hasan gharib sahih." Hakim said, "sahih in isnad." Dhahabi challenged this, saying, "This Yahya has munkar hadith, as Bukhari said." I say, it is as he said. Abu Hatim said, "He is not strong, his hadith is confused, but his hadith is written down."Bayhaqi also narrated it in Shuab al-Iman (6913) through another route, from Rushdin bin Saad, from Yahya bin Abu Sulayman, from Abu Hazim, from Anas, who heard it narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, and he mentioned something similar. Rushdin bin Saad is daif. Bayhaqi said, "Others differed with him regarding Yahya bin Abu Sulayman, narrating it as he mentioned, and said, 'This is more sahih than the narration of Rushdin bin Saad, and Rushdin bin Saad is daif.'" End of his statement, and he did not comment on Yahya bin Abu Sulayman.Regarding His saying, "because your Lord has inspired it" [Zalzalah 99:5], the expressions "awha laha," "awha ilayha," "waha laha," and "waha ilayha" are all equivalent, as Bukhari said. The meaning of "wahy" here is command, that is, He commanded the earth to split open and release them.Regarding His saying, "On that Day mankind will proceed in scattered groups" [Zalzalah 99:6], "ashtatan" is the plural of "shatt," meaning that mankind will depart from the stations of reckoning in "ashtatan," that is, in different kinds and categories, between the wretched and the blessed. That is, they will return from the standing place in groups, to descend to their abodes in Paradise or the Fire. Those on the right side will enter Paradise, and those on the left side will enter the Fire.
