He spent the night with the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet of Allah ﷺ got up in the latter part of the night, went outside, and looked up at the sky. He then recited this verse from Aal Imran, "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day..." up to "...and protect us from the punishment of the Fire" [Aal Imran 3:190–191]. Then he returned to the house, used the toothstick, performed ablution, stood up and prayed, then lay down. Then he got up again, went outside, looked at the sky, and recited the same verse. Then he came back, used the toothstick, performed ablution, stood up, and prayed.
أنه بات عند النبي ﷺ ذات ليلة، فقام نبي الله ﷺ من آخر الليل، فخرج فنظر في السماء، ثم تلا هذه الآية في آل عمران: {إن في خلق السموات والأرض واختلاف اليل والنهار} حتى بلغ: {فقنا عذاب النار} [آل عمران، ١٩٠، ١٩١] ثم رجع إلى البيت فتسوك وتوضأ، ثم قام فصلى، ثم اضطجع، ثم قام فخرج فنظر إلى السماء فتلا هذه الآية، ثم رجع فتسوك فتوضأ، ثم قام فصلى.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on purification (256), from Abd bin Humayd, who said, Abu Naeem narrated to us, who said, Ismail bin Muslim narrated to us, who said, Abu Mutawakkil narrated to us, that Ibn Abbas told him... and he mentioned it.
