Regarding the verse "You will surely experience stage after stage" [Inshiqaq 84:19], it means one state after another. He said, "This refers to your Prophet ﷺ."
{لتركبن طبقا عن طبق} حالا بعد حال، قال هذا نبيكم ﷺ.
Bukhari narrated it in the tafsir (4940), from Saeed bin Nadr, who said, Hushaym reported to us, Abu Bishr Jafar bin Iyas reported to us, from Mujahid, who said, Ibn Abbas said, and then he mentioned it.This means that a person passes through multiple stages that differ from one another in creation, from the sperm-drop, to the clinging clot, to the lump of flesh, to the breathing of the spirit. Then he is born as an infant, then becomes a young man, then a mature adult, then he dies, then he is resurrected on the Day of Judgment to be recompensed for his deeds. The second meaning is state after state, ease after hardship and hardship after ease, wealth after poverty and poverty after wealth, health after sickness and sickness after health. All these meanings have been transmitted from the early generations. This points to the existence of the Creator who is worshipped, yet many people do not believe in Him. His statement, "and when the Quran is recited to them, they do not prostrate" [Inshiqaq 84:21], means they do not submit to His commands nor refrain from what He has forbidden.
