Umm Fadl bint Harith heard him reciting "By those sent forth" [Mursalat 77:1], so she said, "My son, your recitation of this surah has reminded me. It was the last thing I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite in the Maghrib prayer."
Malik narrated it in the Book of Prayer (24) from Ibn Shihab, from Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utba bin Masud, from Abdullah bin Abbas, who said, and then he related it. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Adhan (763) and Muslim in the Book of Prayer (462), both of them through the route of Malik, transmitted in the same way. Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of Maghazi (4429) and Muslim narrated it, both of them through routes from Zuhri other than the narration of Malik, and in it, "Then he never led us in prayer again after that until Allah took him." The discussion of this matter is set out in detail in the Book of Prayer.
