Malik narrated it in "Purification" (114), from Abu Zinad, from Aaraj, from Abu Hurairah, who said, and then he mentioned it. Bukhari narrated it in "Friday Prayer" (887) and Muslim in "Purification" (252), through routes from Sufyan, from Abu Zinad, with the same wording. The wording given is Malik's, while Bukhari and Muslim have an addition, "at every prayer or with every prayer," and Nasai and Ibn Majah have, "with the wudu at every prayer," and Ahmad has, "with every wudu." The hadith of Abu Hurairah, with the addition about delaying the night prayer until midnight, will come later in the Book of Prayer, in the chapter on the time of the night prayer.As for what is narrated from Abu Hurairah, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Use the tooth-stick, for it purifies the mouth and pleases the Lord, Mighty and Majestic," this is not preserved as authentic from Abu Hurairah. Ibn Hibban narrated it (1070) through the route of Hammad bin Salama, from Ubaydullah bin Umar, from Maqburi, from Abu Hurairah, with the same wording. A group of hadith scholars disagreed with him, narrating it from Ubaydullah bin Umar with this same chain but with the wording, "Were it not that I would burden my nation, I would have commanded them to use the tooth-stick." Tirmidhi narrated it (167), Ibn Majah (287), and Nasai in Kubra (3021–3024).Ibn Hajar said in Talkhis (1/60), after mentioning the hadith of Hammad bin Salama, "What is preserved from Ubaydullah bin Umar with this chain is the wording, 'Were it not that I would burden my nation.'"
