Ibn Jurayj reported,

Abu Zubayr reported that he heard Abdul-Rahman bin Ayman, the freedman of Azzah, asking Ibn Umar, with Abu Zubayr listening, "What is your view concerning a man who divorces his wife while she is menstruating?"Ibn Umar replied, "Ibn Umar divorced his wife while she was menstruating during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so Umar asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it, saying, 'Abdullah bin Umar has divorced his wife while she was menstruating.'The Prophet ﷺ said to him, 'Let him take her back.' So he returned her to me, and he said, 'When she becomes pure, then let him divorce her or keep her.'"Ibn Umar added, "And the Prophet ﷺ recited, 'Prophet, when you divorce women, divorce them at the beginning of their waiting period' [Talaq 65:1]."

His saying, "O Prophet, when you divorce women, divorce them for their waiting period and keep count of the waiting period, and fear Allah your Lord. Do not turn them out of their houses, nor should they leave except if they commit a clear immorality. And those are the limits of Allah. And whoever transgresses the limits of Allah has certainly wronged himself. You know not, perhaps Allah will bring about after that a matter"
