The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Have you not noticed what your Lord has said? He said, 'I bestow no blessing upon My servants without a group of them rejecting it in disbelief, saying, The stars did this, it was because of the stars.'"
قال رسول الله ﷺ: ألم تروا إلى ما قال ربكم؟ قال: ما أنعمت على عبادي من نعمة إلا أصبح فريق منهم بها كافرين، يقولون: الكواكب وبالكواكب.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Faith (72) through several chains from Yunus, from Ibn Shihab, who said, Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utba told me that Abu Hurairah said, then he related it.On this subject there is also what was narrated from Abu Saeed Khudri, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If Allah, mighty and sublime, were to withhold rain from His servants for five years, and then send it down, a group of people would wake up as disbelievers, saying, 'We were given rain by the rising of Mijdah.'" This was narrated by Nasai (1526), Ahmad (11042), Abu Yaala (1312), and Ibn Hibban (6130), and by Tahawi in Sharh Mushkil Athar (5218), all of them through chains from Amr bin Dinar, from Attab bin Hunayn, from Abu Saeed Khudri, who said, then he related it. The wording given here is that of Nasai. In the version of Ahmad and Ibn Hibban it is "seven years," in the version of Tahawi it is "nine years," and in the version of Abu Yaala it is "ten years."In the chain of transmission is Attab bin Hunayn, who is the Makkan. Sufyan bin Uyayna said of him, "I do not know who Attab is." Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the reliable narrators, following his usual practice of treating unknown narrators as reliable. For this reason Ibn Hajar said of him, "Acceptable," meaning when corroborated, and I have not found any corroborating narration for him.As for the word "Mijdah," it is one of the stars, which the Arabs used to claim brought rain.
