I was with the Prophet ﷺ while he was staying at Jiranah, between Mecca and Medina, and Bilal was with him. An Arabi came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Will you not fulfill what you promised me?"He replied, "Receive good news."The man said, "You have said 'receive good news' to me too often."The Prophet ﷺ then turned to Abu Musa and Bilal as if angry and said, "He has rejected the good news, so the two of you accept it."They replied, "We accept it."Then he called for a cup of water, washed his hands and face in it, and spat into it. Then he said, "Drink from it, pour some over your faces and chests, and receive good news."They took the cup and did so. Umm Salama then called from behind the curtain, "Leave some for your mother." So they left a portion of it for her.
Bukhari narrated it in Al-Maghazi (4328) and also included it in Wudu (196) in abridged form, and Muslim narrated it in Al-Fadail (2497), both through Abu Usama, from Yazid bin Abdullah bin Abu Burda, from his grandfather Abu Burda, from Abu Musa. And he related it. The wording given is that of Bukhari, and the wording of Muslim is similar.
