Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

A delegation from Banu Asad came to the Prophet ﷺ. They spoke, expressing themselves clearly, and said, "Messenger of Allah, all of Mudar fought against you, but we did not fight you. We are neither the fewest of them in number nor the weakest in strength, and we have maintained ties with your kin."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, having heard their words, said to Abu Bakr and Umar, "Do they really speak like this?"One of them replied, "Messenger of Allah, their understanding is little, and Satan is speaking through their tongues."In another narration it is added, "And this verse was revealed, 'They consider it a favor to you that they have accepted Islam. Say, Do not consider your Islam a favor to me. Rather, Allah has conferred favor upon you that He has guided you to the faith, if you should be truthful'" [Hujurat 49:17].

عن ابن عباس قال

قدم على النبي ﷺ وقد بني أسد، فتكلموا، فأبانوا، فقالوا: يا رسول الله قاتلتك مضر كلها، ولم نقاتلك، ولسنا بأقلهم عددا، ولا أكلهم شوكة، وصلنا رحمك. فقال رسول الله ﷺ لأبي بكر وعمر حيث سمع كلامهم: أ يتكلمون هكذا؟ قال: يارسول الله، إن فقههم لقليل، وإن الشيطان لينطق على لسانهم. زاد في رواية: ونزلت هذه الآية: {يمنون عليك أن أسلموا قل لا تمنوا علي إسلامكم بل الله يمن عليكم أن هداكم للإيمان إن كنتم صادقين}
