Usayd bin Hudayr was reciting one night in his enclosure when his horse suddenly began to leap about. He continued reciting, but it leaped again, and then a third time. Usayd said, "I feared it would trample Yahya, so I got up and went over to it. There, above my head, was something like a canopy with what looked like lamps in it, rising up into the sky until I could no longer see it."He said, "I went the next morning to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'Messenger of Allah, last night in the depths of the night, while I was reciting in my enclosure, my horse began to leap about.'"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Recite on, Ibn Hudayr."He said, "So I recited, but it leaped again."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Recite on, Ibn Hudayr."He said, "So I recited, but it leaped again."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Recite on, Ibn Hudayr."He said, "So I stopped, since Yahya was near it and I feared it would trample him. Then I saw something like a canopy with what looked like lamps in it, which rose up into the sky until I could no longer see it."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Those were the angels listening to you. Had you continued reciting, you would have seen them by morning, and the people would have seen them, and they would not have concealed themselves from them."
