One of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ performed a ritual bath using a large bowl of water. The Prophet ﷺ then came to use it for ablution, or for a ritual bath, and she said to him, "Messenger of Allah, I was in a state of major ritual impurity."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Water does not become impure."
اغتسل بعض أزواج النبي ﷺ في جفنة، فجاء النبي ﷺ ليتوضا منها- أو يغتسل- فقالت له: يا رسول الله! إني كنت جنبا، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: إن الماء لا يجنب.
Reported by Abu Dawud (68), Tirmidhi (65), Nasai (325), and Ibn Majah (370, 771), all of them through the route of Simak bin Harb, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas. Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih. I say, its chain is hasan because of Simak bin Harb, and it has been criticized on the grounds that he used to accept prompting. However, Ibn Khuzayma (91) reported it through the route of Shuba from him, and Shuba would only transmit from his teachers what was sahih in their hadith. Ibn Hibban (1242) also graded it sahih, as did Hakim (1/159), both of them through this same route, and Hakim said, "This is a sahih hadith concerning purification, which the two of them (Bukhari and Muslim) did not include, and no defect is known for it."Al-jafnah means the large bowl.
