I stood in prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night. He rose and recited Surah al-Baqarah. He did not pass a verse of mercy without pausing to ask Allah for it, nor a verse of punishment without pausing to seek refuge from it.Then he bowed for as long as he had stood, saying in his bowing, "Glory be to the Possessor of dominion, sovereignty, majesty, and grandeur." Then he prostrated for as long as he had stood, saying the same in his prostration. Then he stood and recited Surah Al Imran, and went on reciting one surah after another.
It was narrated by Abu Dawud (873), Nasai (1132), and Tirmidhi in Shamail (306), all through the route of Muawiya bin Salih, from Amr bin Qays Kindi, who said, "I heard Asim bin Humayd say, 'I heard Awf bin Malik say,'" and then he related it. Its chain is hasan because of Asim bin Humayd, who is Sakuni, for he is truthful. In these clear verses, Allah the Almighty mentions proofs of His power, among them1. The One who created man from a drop of sperm, is He not able to bring him back after his death, since the first creation is greater than the second creation.2. He placed dry fire within the green tree despite their opposition and the intensity of their difference, so bringing the dead out of their graves is easier than this.3. The One who created the seven heavens with their many and countless stars and planets, and the earth like them with its mountains, seas, and forests, is He not able to create man, who is a small being in comparison to these creations.4. He, the Almighty, possesses tremendous power, so when He wills to create something, He needs nothing else, rather it suffices Him to say, "Be, and it is."5. The One in whose hand is the dominion of all things, how could He be incapable of creating man and giving him life after his death. So when we know that He is Possessor of Majesty and Honor, that He is capable of all things, and that His knowledge encompasses all creatures, then it is obligatory upon us to hold Him free from every imperfection, and not to associate anything with Him, because we shall return to Him, and He will repay each one according to his deeds, and He is capable of that .
