The Prophet ﷺ said, "There are four practices from the days of ignorance that my community will not abandon: boasting about lineage, attacking the lineage of others, seeking rain through the stars, and wailing over the dead."
أن النبي ﷺ قال: أربع في أمتي من أمر الجاهلية لا يتركونهن: الفخر في الأنساب، والطعن في الأنساب، والاستسقاء بالنجوم، والنياحة.
Muslim narrated it in the chapters on funerals (934) through several routes from Abu Aban bin Yazid, who said, Yahya told us that Zayd told him that Abu Salam told him that Abu Malik Ashari told him, and he related it in a long hadith.
