He sought permission to enter upon the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Shall I enter?"The Prophet ﷺ said to his servant girl, "Go out to him, for he does not know how to seek permission properly. Tell him to say, 'Peace be upon you. May I enter?'"He said, I heard him say that, so I said, "Peace be upon you. May I enter?"He then granted permission, or he said, so I entered, and I said, "What have you brought to us?"He replied, "I have brought you nothing but good. I have come to you so that you may worship Allah alone with no partner," Shuba said, and I think he said, "alone with no partner, that you abandon al-Lat and al-Uzza, that you pray five prayers by night and day, that you fast one month of the year, that you make pilgrimage to the House, and that you take from the wealth of your rich and return it to your poor."The man asked, "Is there any knowledge left that you do not know?"He answered, "Allah has taught much good, but there is knowledge that none knows except Allah, the five things, 'Indeed, Allah has knowledge of the Hour, and sends down the rain, and knows what is in the wombs. No soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware' [Luqman 31:34]."
أنه استأذن على النبي ﷺ فقال: أألج؟ فقال النبي ﷺ ال الخادمه: اخرجي إليه فإنه لا يحسن الاستئذان، فقولي له: فليقل: السلام عليكم آدخل؟ قال: فسمعته يقول ذلك، فقلت: السلام عليكم آدخل؟ قال: فأذن، أو قال: فدخلت، فقلت: بم أتيتنا به؟ قال: لم آتكم إلا بخير، أتيتكم أن تعبدوا الله وحده لا شريك له- قال شعبة: وأحسبه قال- وحده لا شريك له، وأن تدعوا اللات والعزى، وأن تصلوا بالليل والنهار خمس صلوات، وأن تصوموا من السنة شهرا، وأن تحجوا البيت، وأن تأخذوا من أموال أغنيائكم فتردوها على فقرائكم، قال: فقال: هل بقي من العلم شيء لا تعلمه؟ قال: قد علم الله خيرا، وإن من العلم ما لا يعلمه إلا الله، الخمس: {إن الله عنده علم الساعة وينزل الغيث ويعلم ما في الأرحام وما تدري نفس ماذا تكسب غدا وما تدري نفس بأي أرض تموت إن الله عليم خبير}
Ahmad (23127) narrated it, and this is his wording, as did Abu Dawud (5179) and Nasai in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (316), all of them via Shubah, from Mansur, from Rabi bin Harash, from a man from Banu Amir, and he related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.Abu Dawud (5178) also narrated it through another route from Mansur, from Rabi bin Harash, who said, "I was told that a man from Banu Amir sought permission to enter upon the Prophet ﷺ," with the same meaning.It may be that Rabi bin Harash first heard the hadith through an intermediary from a man of Banu Amir, then later heard it directly from him without an intermediary. The fact that the companion is unnamed does not weaken the hadith, and the hadith has many corroborating sources.
