The Prophet ﷺ said, or Abu Qasim said, "While a man was walking in a fine garment, admiring himself, his hair well-groomed, Allah caused the earth to swallow him, and he will keep sinking down into it until the Day of Resurrection."
قال النبي ﷺ- أو قال أبو القاسم-: بينما رجل يمشي في حلة تعجبه نفسه، مرجل جمته إذ خسف الله به، فهو يتجلجل إلى يوم القيامة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Clothing (5789), and Muslim in the Book of Clothing (2088), both through Shubah, who said, "Muhammad bin Ziyad narrated to us, saying, 'I heard Abu Hurairah,'" and then he mentioned it. The wording given is Bukhari's, for Muslim did not present his own wording with this chain but instead referred back to a preceding chain with a similar wording. It has been said that this man was Qarun. There are other hadiths on this same meaning, mentioned in their respective places.
