Muaz reported, I was riding behind the Prophet ﷺ on a donkey called Ufayr when he said, "Muaz, do you know what right Allah has over His servants, and what right the servants have over Allah?"I replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best."He said, "The right of Allah over His servants is that they worship Him and associate nothing with Him, and the right of the servants over Allah is that He will not punish anyone who associates nothing with Him."I said, "Messenger of Allah, shall I not give the people this good news?"He replied, "Do not give them this news, for they will rely on it."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Jihad and Military Expeditions (2856), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Faith (49/30), both from the hadith of Abu Ahwas Salam bin Salim, from Abu Ishaq, from Amr bin Maymun, from Muaz bin Jabal, and he related it. Their wording is identical. There are many hadiths on this theme, and they are recorded in the Book of Faith. What Allah promised in this verse was fulfilled during the era of the companions, for Allah granted them dominion over the lands and the people. They attained complete security, worshiping Allah alone, with no partner, free from fear or dread. A group of Muslims continues to worship Allah alone throughout the inhabited world, along with dominion and security, as stated in the sahih hadith.
