The Prophet ﷺ came to Fatimah with a slave he had given to her as a gift. Fatimah was wearing a garment that, when she covered her head with it, did not reach her feet, and when she covered her feet with it, did not reach her head. When the Prophet ﷺ saw the difficulty she was facing, he said, "There is no harm upon you. It is only your father and your servant boy."
أن النبي ﷺ هل أتى فاطمة بعبد قد وهبه لها، قال: وعلى فاطمة ثوب إذا قنعت به رأسها لم يبلغ رجليها، وإذا غطت به رجليها لم يبلغ رأسها، فلما رأى النبي ﷺ ما تلقى، قال: إنه ليس عليك بأس، إنما هو أبوك وغلامك.
Abu Dawud (4106) narrated it from Muhammad bin Isa, who said, Abu Jumai Salim bin Dinar narrated to us, from Thabit, from Anas, and he related it as mentioned. Its isnad is hasan because of Abu Jumai Salim bin Dinar, for he is hasan al-hadith. Ibn Main deemed him reliable. Ahmad said, "I hope there is no problem with him."Ibn Adi related it in al-Kamil (3/1152) via the route of Sallam bin Abu Sahba, who said, Thabit narrated to us, similarly. Sallam bin Abu Sahba is disputed, but there is no harm in using him for corroboration. Ahmad said, "He is hasan al-hadith." And Ibn Adi, after mentioning several of his hadiths, including this one, said, "I hope there is no harm in him."As for the words "such male attendants as have no desire" [Nur 24:31], this means those who have no desire for women and no awareness of what is alluring about them. Otherwise, they are not permitted to enter upon women, even if such a person were effeminate, as has come in the Sahih.
