Bukhari reported it in the Tafsir (4739) from Muhammad bin Bashshar, who said, "Ghundar narrated to us, Shubah narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, who said, 'I heard Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid narrate from Abdullah,'" and he related it.His statement, "of the old and excellent ones" with the ain vowelled with a kasrah, is the plural of ateeq, which refers to that which has reached the utmost degree of excellence. His statement, "and the ancient ones," with the ta vowelled with a kasrah, refers to what is old. The precedence here is in terms of revelation, since these surahs are Makkan, and this was the first portion of the Quran he memorized.The reason Surah Anbiya was given this name is that sixteen prophets are mentioned in it, and this number is not mentioned anywhere else except in Surah Anam, where eighteen prophets are mentioned. However, that surah was named Anam because of its distinctive treatment of the rulings concerning livestock.
