The Prophet ﷺ said, "There are four practices from the days of ignorance that my community will not abandon: boasting about lineage, disparaging others' ancestry, seeking rain through the stars, and wailing over the dead." He added, "If a wailing woman does not repent before her death, she will be raised on the Day of Resurrection wearing a garment of tar and a shirt of scabs."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Funerals (934) through several routes from Abu Aban bin Yazid, who said, Yahya narrated to us, that Zayd narrated to him, that Abu Salam narrated to him, that Abu Malik Ashari narrated to him, and he related it.
