Anas bin Malik reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent one of his companions to a man who was among the great chiefs of the age of ignorance, calling him to Allah .The man said, "What is this Lord of yours that you call me to? Is he made of copper? Of iron? Of silver? Of gold?"The companion came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him what had happened. The Prophet ﷺ sent him back a second time, and the man said exactly the same thing. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him, and the Prophet ﷺ sent him a third time, and again the man said the same thing. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him.Then Allah sent down a thunderbolt upon the man and burned him up.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah has sent a thunderbolt upon your man and burned him up."Then this verse was revealed, "And He sends the thunderbolts and strikes with them whom He wills, while they dispute about Allah, and He is severe in might" [Rad 13:13].

عن أنس قال

بعث رسول الله ﷺ رجلا من أصحابه إلى رجل من عظماء الجاهلية، يدعوه إلى الله تبارك وتعالى، فقال: أيش ربك الذي تدعو إليه؟ من نحاس هو؟ من حديد هو؟ من فضة هو؟ من ذهب هو؟ فأتى النبي ﷺ، فأخبره، فأعاده النبي ﷺ الثانية، فقال مثل ذلك، فأتى النبي ﷺ، فأخبره، فأرسله إليه الثالثة، فقال مثل ذلك، فأتى النبي ﷺ، فأخبره، فأرسل الله تبارك وتعالى عليه صاعقة، فأحرقته، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: إن الله تبارك وتعالى قد أرسل على صاحبك صاعقة فأحرقته، فنزلت هذه الآية {ويرسل الصواعق فيصيب بها من يشاء وهم يجدلون في الله وهو شديد المحال}
