A woman came to buy dates from me, so I said to her, "There are better dates than these in the house." She entered the house with me, and I leaned toward her, touched her, and kissed her.I went to Abu Bakr and told him what had happened. He said, "Conceal it for yourself, and do not tell anyone."But I could not bear it, so I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him about it. He said, "Have you betrayed a fighter who is away on campaign by doing this to his family?" I wished at that moment that I had not embraced Islam until that very hour, and I thought I was among the people of the Fire. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ lowered his head for a long while, then Allah revealed to him "And establish prayer at the two ends of the day" [Hud 11:114] to the end of the verse.Abu Yusr said, I came to him and he recited it to me. His companions asked, "Messenger of Allah, is this for him specifically, or for people in general?"He replied, "Rather, it is for people in general."
Tirmidhi (3115), Tabari in his Tafsir (12/625), and Tabarani in al-Kabir (16/165) all narrated it from the hadith of Qays bin Rabi, from Uthman bin Abdullah bin Mawhab, from Musa bin Talha, from Abu Yusr, and he mentioned it.Bazzar narrated it in his Musnad (2300), and Nasai in al-Kubra (7286 and 11184), both by way of Sharik the judge, who said, Uthman bin Abdullah bin Mawhab narrated to us, similarly.Qays bin Rabi and Sharik the judge are both daif, but each strengthens the other, and by this the isnad becomes hasan.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih gharib hadith."
