Abdul-Rahman bin Awf brought forty ounces of gold to the Prophet ﷺ, and a man from the Ansar brought a single saa of food. Some of the hypocrites remarked, "By Allah, Abdul-Rahman only brought what he did to show off!" They also said, "Surely Allah and His Messenger have no need of this saa."
في قوله تعالى: {الذين يلمزون المطوعين من المؤمنين في الصدقت}
جاء عبد الرحمن بن عوف بأربعين أوقية من ذهب إلى النبي ﷺ، وجاءه رجل من الأنصار بصاع من طعام، فقال بعض المنافقين: والله ما جاء عبد الرحمن بما جاء به إلا رياء! وقالوا: إن كان الله ورسوله لغنيين عن هذا الصاع.

Ibn Jareer Tabari narrated it in his Tafsir (11/378) and Ibn Abu Hatim narrated it in his Tafsir (6/1850), both of them through Abdullah bin Salih Abu Salih, the scribe of Layth, who said, Muawiya bin Salih narrated to us, from Ali bin Abu Talha, from Ibn Abbas, and he related it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Ali bin Abu Talha. Even though he transmits from Ibn Abbas without a direct connection, the intermediary is known, and he is truthful in himself. Likewise, Abdullah bin Salih is hasan al-hadith.
