Qabisa said, "I took on the responsibility of paying a debt to reconcile between people, so I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to ask him for help with it."He said, "Stay until the charity comes to us, and we will order that some of it be given to you."Then he said, "Qabisa, asking for help is not permitted except for one of three people. A man who has taken on a debt to reconcile between people, asking is permitted for him until he obtains it, then he must stop. A man struck by a calamity that has destroyed his wealth, asking is permitted for him until he secures the means of subsistence (or he said, enough to sustain life). And a man struck by such poverty that three sensible men from his people testify, 'So-and-so has been struck by poverty,' asking is then permitted for him until he secures the means of subsistence (or he said, enough to sustain life). Anything beyond these, Qabisa, is unlawful gain that the one who takes it consumes unlawfully."
Muslim narrated it in zakat (1044) through several routes from Hammad bin Zayd, from Harun bin Riab, who said, Kinana bin Naeem Adawi narrated to me, from Qabisa bin Mukharraq Hilali, and he mentioned it.
