I asked Ibn Umar about prayer while traveling.He said, "Prayer while traveling is two rakahs."We said, "But we are in a state of security."He replied, "It is the sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ."
سألت ابن عمر عن الصلاة في السفر، قال: الصلاة في السفر ركعتان. قلنا: إنا آمنون. قال: سنة النبي ﷺ.
Ahmad (4704) narrated it from Yahya (bin Saeed Qattan), from Ismail (bin Abu Khalid), from Abu Hanzala, who related it. Its chain is hasan because of Abu Hanzala, who is Hakeem the shoemaker, as found in Ahmad (5566) through another route, where it states, "I heard Ibn Umar being asked about prayer while traveling," and he related the same. Abu Hanzala is among the men of Tajil (1260), and Ibn Khalfun mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators. Abu Ahmad Hakim said in al-Kuna, "His hadith is among the Kufans." Ibn Hajar said, "He is known, and I do not know of any criticism of him."There are other hadiths of similar meaning in the book on prayer, and they contain clear evidence that shortening the prayer does not require the presence of fear as a condition.
