Whenever someone came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking a need, he would turn to those sitting with him and say, "Intercede on his behalf so that you may be rewarded, and let Allah decree through the tongue of His Prophet whatever He wills."
عن رسول الله ﷺ إذا أتاه طالب حاجة، أقبل على جلسائه فقال: اشفعوا فلتؤجروا، وليقض الله على لسان نبيه ما أحب.
Bukhari related it in zakat (1432), and Muslim in Righteousness (2627), both from the hadith of Abu Burda, Burayd bin Abdullah, from Abu Burda, from Abu Musa, as mentioned.Mujahid said, "This verse was revealed concerning people's intercessions for one another."And His saying "muqita" [Nisa 4:85] means guardian. And it was said that it is derived from qut, meaning sustenance, so that Allah is the Sustainer and the Provider, and intercession is only the means.
