A sheep was slaughtered for him in his household. When he came, he asked, "Did you send some to our Jewish neighbor? Did you send some to our Jewish neighbor? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Jibreel kept advising me to take care of the neighbor until I thought he would make him an heir.'"
ذبحت له شاة في أهله، فلما جاء قال: أهديتم لجارنا اليهودي؟ أهديتم لجارنا اليهودي؟ سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: ما زال جبريل يوصيني بالجار حتى ظننت أنه سيورثه.
Abu Dawud (5152), Tirmidhi (1943), and Ahmad (6496) all narrated it from the hadith of Sufyan, from Bashir bin Ismail, from Mujahid, from Abdullah bin Amr, who related it. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith from this route, and this hadith has also been narrated from Mujahid, from Ayesha and Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ."I say, rather its chain of transmission is sahih, for its narrators are trustworthy narrators found in the Sahih, and Bashir bin Ismail has been corroborated in his chain, corroborated by Dawud bin Shabur as found in Ahmad, who is also trustworthy. As for the hadith of Mujahid from Ayesha and Abu Hurairah, it is recorded in the Book of Manners, and the disagreement over Mujahid does not cause harm, for Mujahid narrated extensively, having narrated from Abdullah bin Amr just as it was narrated from Ayesha and Abu Hurairah, and likewise his students narrated from him and differed among themselves regarding him. All of it is sahih.
